The Use
The Continous Past tense is used when something was happening before a previous action.
The Rule/Form (active-voice)
Positive Sentence Structure:
Adverb + Subject + was / were + (Verb+ing) + Object. Example: all-yesterday, I was studying English.
Negative Sentence Structure:
Adverb + Subject + was / were + not + (Verb+ing) + Object. Example: all yesterday, I was not studying English.
Question Structure:
was / were + Subject + (Verb+ing) + Object + adverb + etc… +?. Example: were you studying English all yesterday? I don’t know.
Tag question Structure:
was / were + not (if the sentence was positive) + noun +? . Example: all yesterday, You were studying English now, were not you? No, I was not.
The Rule/Form (passive-voice)
Positive Sentence Structure:
Object + was/were + being + verb (past participle). Example: The homework was being done.
Negative Sentence Structure:
Object + was/were + not + being + verb (past participle). Example: The homework wasn’t being done.
Question Structure:
was / were + object + being + done +?. Example: was the homework being done? yes, it was.
Tag Question Structure:
was / were + not (if the sentence was positive) + noun +?. Example: The homework was being done. wasn’t it? yes, it was.
Adverb
a time period in the past is enough to be an adverb.
